What to do if you have already finished a videogame? Has it been too easy for you? Want to improve your skills? Simply found no challenge? So I have the solution just here for you, the answer are the "achievements". Every game has a list of extra task in it (at least very often) that challenges you to make extra efford while playing called achievements, They normally have a range in between are "easy, medium, hard, extreme" and the tipical "get all achievements" achievement. To be the most passionate of a game your goal is to get 100% of achievement, which will make you repeat and repeat some parts of the game or the full game inclouded. They would possibly tell you something like: "play it backwards, use no weapons, play everything in hard mode without losing any live or complete de game before x time".
Some of the most known achievements in the videogames world are: My kung-fu is stronger (Mortal Kombat) To earn it you must win 100 fights, complete 100 fatalities, perform 150 x-rays, and spill 10,000 liters of blood… for all 28 fighters. Oh, and did I mention that you also have to play as each fighter for a full 24 hours? Impossible boy (Super Meatboy) Complete the 100% of the game, inclouding all bandages. You will know how hard it is if you play it. Mr. Perfect (MegaMan 10) Complete the 100% of the game without being hit by an enemy during all of it or dying.

Today I am going to discover you a genre of videogames not well-known but which is my favorite: Base Building games. The main objective in these games is to survive with the rersources given, keeping your inhabitants alive. Resources could normally be obtained by exploiting sources using your own inhabitants, so you could get victory when production is over consumition. The real difficult in these games is based in agglomeration, I mean that normally more inhabitants would progresively appear and increase consumition. Some examples are: Fallout Shelter: based on an alternative story of Fallout games, you live in an underground shelter because a nuclear explosion. There are four resources: food and water (for the people), electricity (for running rooms) and money (for building rooms). It is free to play on Steam and contains an average of 40 hours of gameplay. Oxygen not inlcuded: something more dense and hard to play. You are living in an asteroid randomly created and your goal is to survive as many days as you can. You have to take care of basic human needs as breathing, eating, drinking, pooping, socializing or keeping their bodies warm. Today it is being developed so it contain minor bugs but creators add new content each few weeks. It costs 22€ in Steam.
Steam is one of the most powerful and largest entertainment platform made for computer which ever existed. In a single day 10 million people play any game on it. The most played games are: - Dota2, with a peak of 790,000 today. - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, where the 92% of reviews are positives. - Grand Theft Auto V. I don't like it, personally. - Team Fortress II, the first "Free to Play" in the list. Gabe Newell (3-11-1962) is the owner and cofounder of Steam, he also develops games and hardware. The name of his brand is Valve Software and he has a enormous fortune, over 4100 million pounds. Valve has created some well-known videogame sagas like Half-Life, Left4Dead and Portal (my favourite one). It has also sold some hardware like the Steam Controller or Steam Link. Now I am going to explain how to use Steam on your computer. First you need to install it in your device. It is very simple, go to official Steam page http://store.steampowered.com/, then click on the green button in the upper-right corner. You'll need an administrator account to proceed. Once installed you need an account. Go again to the official page and click now on "log in" button. Then read the instruction that appears on your screen to create your own account. When you have already done that, you are ready to use Steam. Enjoy buying videogames and intercative application from home or try the free-to-play ones that are included in this platform. You can tell your friends too to play coperative or competitive games. In DnD there are many kind of dices, to include some luck factors. Depending on their faces, they've got different uses:
d4: to measure some low damage with initial weapons and poisons. d6: to build your character and measure medium damage. d8: to scale trasures and measure high damage. d10: to see how the terrains affect to you d12: to calculate aim, distances, and extreme damages or special effects. d20: to see the result of usual actions d100: as a d10 but more generic d2: a coin, to give something with a 50/50 probability. When you are using a dice, particularly d20, you have the chance to get a 1, called "fail". If you commit a "fail" the Master could sanction you with terrible acts, like losing your money or almost dying. On the other hand, if you get a 20, called a "critic", the Master should reward you with extra-money, a powerful action or an insta-killing hit. Everything writed could variate depending on your Master, it is important to get an arrangement before starting the game. In Dugeons and Dragons, there are many components that make you change your behaviour. You won't start playing in the same way as you'll finish.
1. NPCs (non-player character) are different in each game, so you are going to discover how bad and unkind they could be. 2. Dungeon Masters tend to hide monsters. At the end, you'll expect them in each corner. 3. Possibly, you'll find some radical prayers to any God that could disturb you. That will make you dislike this kind of people, or their God's other followers. Creators knew this will happen, so they designed a method to make the player keep a general point of view based in two axes, (Chaotic-Lawful) and (Evil-Good), which have in his center Neutral-Neutral or "True Neutral". Chaotic: this means that you don't follow the rules (state rules, laws or others standards). Somebody Chaotic-Good would try to do good things by his own, somebody Chaotic-Bad would try to break the rules because he thinks they are stupid and not good for him, or bad for the other. Lawful: this means you follow the imposed rules and you like following other people and making what they told you to do (serfs, priests or citizens). Someone Lawful-Good would be a hero or a king and help because his public image, it could be a guardian that follows his instructor commandments. Someone Lawful-Bad doesn't enjoy doing bad things, or not at all. He just make them because they seem to be "bad", or because someone told him that he must do that. Neutral-Neutral (True Neutral): does whatever he wants, tries to survive and keep alive these who come with him. It doesn't use to live among huge groups and normally stays by nature, living in his own. This method caused some problems with the real catholic followers in the early eighties, and they made the company to remove it from the game for some years. This Christmas I got an interesting easy game and I am making its review. It is called Dungeon Raiders, inspired by dungeon in middle-age games, this card game tries to simplify hard and tedious rules from this games, compact it in a few cards and making it cheaper. It has funny pictures and many visual aspects that will help unexperimented players. The pack contains different kind of cards: enemies, players, rooms, traps, bosses and equipement. It also has small red dices which indicates your life points. They are quite small so people should take care with little children. This game is recommended for 3-5 players, but there is an option for 2 players. There is not a defined range of age, but I have played with some cousins of mine and I can say that from 7 years you could have an interesting familiar experience. The game ends with one winner and teaches how to balance yourself and not becoming so greedy or scary. Positive aspects Easy to play and fast games. Cheap. Everybody can play. It gets hard if you play with experienced players, similar to poker. Uses luck factors but needs thinking ability. Negative aspects Unbalanced characters, mage and explorer are overpowered. If any card is broken, bent or marked you can recognized its rear and spoil yourself. Contains small pieces. Making your own character could be boring and tedious, so I will give you some instructions to develop it easy and properly. 1. Imagine how the character would look like
Try to describe it and think about the race*, height, weight and phisical appereance (musculature, hair, facial features...) and his clothes 2. Imagine which are the character's concerns, goals and objectives Try to define the behaving of your character, does he do what he wants or what is correct? Then highlight his goals, why is he alive? What does he want to do with his life? 3. Concrete his personal abilities and skills Make the Chuck's given for the 6 abilities (it is all explained in the book) and distribute your level points, agreeing with your concerns and goals 4. Give him a name You need to call him by his name and surname. He also needs a divinity, an age and sex. 5. Get equipement and luggage With your base money buy everything you need (a bag, water, food and weapon and clothes are very important) or use a default equipement *There are some races like : humans, elves, gnomes, half-orcs, dwarves, halflings and half-elves. I will explained it soon... These are some few things that you can do to improve your imagination and develope better role stories and get a more envolving atmosphere while playing them. 1. Take some references: read books like "The Lord of The Rings" or "Eragon", watch films or series like "Robin Hood" or "the Hobbit" and enjoy other people roleplaying on YouTube
2. Have healthy habits: it sounds like a medical recommanation, but it's true that it will improve your imagination, if you sleep well and eat properly your fantasy world would enlarge itself 3. Go from 0 to 100: do not try to be very imaginative at first, start with some written information and annotations and then remove them procedurally. 4. Use tricks: take always with you some images and audios that help you to relax. When your mind gets white, use them to invent something. They should be suggerent and not very noisy or impactant. 5. Be yourself: do not try to imagine something very far away from your own experience, for example a "pink-flying lion", it would be hard for you. It is better to imagine how you want and not how other peolpe say. If they say "imagine an elf" and you think he has brown hair, do not try to change your way of thinking because they told you to. Dragons and Dungeons (also know as DnD, Dragons'n'Dungeons or D&D) is the prime role game ever. Even if you do not like role games you would heard at least once about this famous game. If you want to play D&D you need the items in the following list:
1. Role dices (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100), they are normally sold in specialist shop or online. 2. The basic guide books (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and a Monster Manual) to start. You do not need to read them all, but there is esential information in them. They are quite expensive if you want to buy them, but they are avaible on the net. The easiest to find and best version is the 3.5 guide books. 3. Friends or people interested in DnD, they would possibly became your friends if you spend hours playing this game. 4. Imagination, because there is no pictures, videos or references. To explain how does it work I will write more posts, in this one we are focusing on what Players need to know. Firstly, you should read the begging of Player's Handbook, specially Chapters I, II, III and IV. After that, your team has to choose or find a Dungeon Master, who must read the begging of his/her book, too. Next, meet with your Master to create your Character Sheet, with your character information, like your abilities or your stats. And finally, what you were expecting for, choose a day, when you prefer, and spend a large amount of hours enjoying your Master's campaign. *I recommend you to make your character's personality like yours, so it will be easier to role that a different one. Here I am with other board game, called "Escape from Silver City" (you'll find it like "Huida de Silver City"). This game is based in an apocalyptical city where some survivors should find a way of going out from there, taking care because there are some difficulties, like the zombies, the bomb that the government is leaving over the city or the destroyed bridge that do not allow you to cross it. You should be over 12 to play this game, because it is a little bit hard to understand. You can be from 1 to 4 players enjoying it, each one with different stats and ítems. Advantatges: -There are some zombies who want to eat your brains. -Your friends could be infected and you will be nervous even if you are only with them. -It includes an amazing board and some characters' pictures, descriptions and special abilities. -Every game you play is completely different from the last one beacuse it has a deck of events and loots. -If you become an infected you can still play as a secret infected or a strong zombie. Disadvantatges: -It has some "not-replaceable pieces" and they are tiny so you can lose them easily. -It is based on luck and sometimes you can not go away from the city even if you try everything possible. -There are some barricades which often appears when you do not expect them and make you die, but they are very unbalanced and you will spend so much time removing them when they appear in a main street. -There are some instructions which are not clear at all, like the zombies behavior, the barricades rules or the ways to escape which are closed. Opinion: There is a simple game to play with your friends when you do not have anything better to do, sometimes becomes impossible and it has tones of zombies, personally it is funny and exciting. I rate it with a: 7/10 |
